Permits in Pinecrest

Pinecrest permits its own roofs through the Village Building and Planning Department, and the Village requires your contractor to be registered with it before they can pull anything.

  • Ask whether the contractor is registered with the Village

A state or county licence is not enough on its own here. The contractor also has to be registered with Pinecrest. It is a short question that separates crews who actually work the village from crews who will discover the requirement on the day.

  • If a tree has to move, that permit comes first

Where the work genuinely requires removing or relocating a tree, the Village requires the tree permit to be issued before the building permit. Out of order stops the whole job, not just the tree work. This only applies when a tree actually has to go; most roofs do not touch one.

  • A tree permit needs two signatures

Removal or relocation has to be signed by the property owner and by a landscape contractor registered with the Village. The Village publishes the list of who qualifies.

  • Removing a tree without the permit is costly

It brings a notice of violation and an order to stop all clearing and construction, plus penalties, and anything removed is replaced at double the canopy.

  • Even permit free pruning has a standard

The Village requires pruning to meet ANSI A300 whether or not a permit is needed. A crew that strips a canopy to get a clear run at the roof creates a problem for the homeowner, not for themselves.
